Using Digium’s Asterisk (News - Alert) and Vyatta’s open source networking solutions that include routing, firewall, and VPN functionality, the companies aim to make it easier for customers to install and configure a secure, integrated voice and data environment.

According to Dave Roberts, vice president of strategy and marketing at Vyatta, Voice over IP is now a mainstream technology, and the two companies are endeavoring to put open source networking on the same level. He believes Vyatta and Digium can work together to expand their marketing reach, and drive rapid adoption of their solutions.
