iWOW Connections (News - Alert), a global provider of wireless technologies, today introduced its “TR-900 GSM/GPRS” module. The newest member of the iWOW Wireless Connectivity Module family boasts industry-leading performance, unrivalled upgradeability and a robust platform for easy development of customized applications, according to the company.

Using the Texas Instruments (News - Alert) LoCosto platform, based on their single-chip DRP technology, TR-900 provides enhanced user experience with added features and improvement in power management to the Machine-to-Machine market, according to company sources.

Because the TR-900 incorporates TI’s DRP technology, it is a cost-effective and compact solution that would suit a variety of applications such as security and surveillance, automated meter reading, vending and retail and fleet management.

The TR-900 supports a powerful integrated software environment, and features firmware stacks such as TCP/IP, UDP (News - Alert)/IP and FTP, company officials say. TR-900 also offers optional services such as MMS stack and embedded programming. The company officials also say that the new module offers a simple upgrade path for existing iWOW customers, and is functionally backward compatible with its predecessor, TR-800. With the new module iWOW’s customers will expereince reduction in the cost of ownership, as well as greater time-efficiency in the development of their M2M applications, they say.

Fred Cohen, general manager of TI’s Asia Wireless Business Unit, said that the company’s pleased to see another industry-leading product to come out of the solid cooperation between iWOW and Texas Instruments. He said that the TCS23xx Locosto single-chip GSM/GPRS product family delivers a unique performance price point that has been fully leveraged by iWOW Connections into the TR-900 module.

Lee Yao Chiang, chief executive officer of iWOW Connections, said that with the company’s new strategic alliance, Texas Instruments, iWOW is excited to provide their customers with the best technology they need to tap into the vast opportunities presented by the rapid growth of the M2M industry.
