Caringo Provides Storage Solution for CMWare's skyTuneZ
By Raju Shanbhag TMCnet Contributing Editor
Seeking a way for users to store, access and share their personal media files from the Web and mobile phones, CMWare announced today that it’s selected Caringo’s CAStor software as the primary storage solution behind the company’s skyTuneZ service.
Caringo Inc. provides content storage software that delivers clustered storage infrastructure for active and archive content.
CMWare sought to create a centralized storage space where skyTuneZ users could upload and host their media files. The company selected CAStor for the level of control that could be achieved over its customers’ data. The company says that CAStor installs quickly and easily and will allow CMWare to scale as demand of skyTuneZ grows. The company feels that the CAStor is just the right solution for its users.
With skyTuneZ, customers can upload and access rich media files including music, photos and video from anywhere, at any time as the software is available through a number of distribution channels and directly to consumers. The service needs to provide reliable and continuously available access to stored files that can scale easily and affordably according to the demand. CMWare chose CAStor based on its proven capability to meet these requirements. With its native HTTP
interface the CAStor storage cluster is just the right fit for Internet service offerings and Web 2.0 companies looking for a simple and affordable storage infrastructure to support their business models, according to the company.
Offering companies a chance to implement a cost-effective clustered storage solution, CAStor runs on standard, commodity server hardware, company officials say. When users access large collections of active content, it provides the performance needed to serve large communities of users with the self-managing and self-healing functionality that minimizes administrative overhead.
“Companies, like CMWare, are finding that CAStor is an ideal way to solve their needs for active content serving while minimizing the costs and management issues of traditional storage systems,” said Mark Goros, chief executive officer of Caringo. “Implementation is fast and easy as is increasing storage capacity. Companies retain complete control of their content while allowing them to focus their time and energies on core competencies.”
