Camstar and Tata Agree to Enhance Manufacturing for Life Sciences

Camstar Systems, a provider of enterprise manufacturing and quality execution systems, has made a Global Strategic Alliance Agreement with Tata Consultancy (News - Alert) Services (TCS), an information technology organization. Both the companies along with SAP AG, will work to enable a fully integrated manufacturing platform for the Life Sciences manufacturers, utilizing SAP’s (News - Alert) “Perfect Plant” initiative.

SAP’s Perfect Plant provides a generalized view into all plant operations. It helps manufacturers by improving visibility and integration with business processes, and lets them make the best use of the SAP ERP application by integrating it with the Camstar platform. A pervious output by Camstar and SAP, Camstar’s eDHR Intelligence v4.2 composite application provides real-time communication of manufacturing data and global visibility into manufacturing operations through a single, role-based composite user experience has already proven to be a great success.

A Perfect Plant Center of Excellence will demonstrate SAP manufacturing applications and Camstar MII composite applications working together in a simulated plant environment, and will be shown being operated by a “virtual team” from TCS and SAP.

Camstar’s Manufacturing and Quality Execution Systems allow rapid changes to be made apart from managing the risk, ensuring product quality and maximizing production yields. TCS has a proven track record working in the Life Sciences Industry.

Scott Toney, president and CEO of Camstar, said that the company is pleased to announce this partnership with TCS, as medical device and biotechnology manufacturers are preferring to choose the Camstar platform and implementation methodology for their manufacturing operations. He noted that SAP’s Perfect Plant provides advanced operations intelligence and seamless integration between planning, execution and business processes, whereas TCS works for reducing costs, speeding time-to-market, and improving supply chain visibility of the manufacturers, hence with their expertise and experience, this important partnership will be developing solutions that streamline and improve manufacturers' ability to innovate while helping them rapidly ramp and launch the highest quality products.

Regu Ayyaswamy, vice president and global head, engineering and industrial services at Tata Consultancy Services (News - Alert), expressed hope that the company's partnership with Camstar, as part of the SAP Perfect Plant initiative, will develop plant-level solutions, helping manufacturers improve visibility and intelligence in their production operations. He added that TCS’ domain expertise in Life Sciences and Healthcare will significantly help benefit the industry in seeking continuous improvement in operations.

To enable “Closed-Loop Quality Execution,” the end-to-end business process for advanced manufacturing and quality operations, Camstar has brought Enterprise Manufacturing Execution, Quality and Intelligence platform. This solution monitors and controls global manufacturing and quality, and strikes a balance between innovation and risk factor, resulting in shorter time-to-market and time-to-volume and higher quality products.

Tata Consultancy Services is an organization providing IT services and business solutions. It is a venture of the Tata Group, India’s largest industrial conglomerate. The company generated consolidated revenues of $4.3 billion for fiscal year ended March 31, 2007.
