Colosa Incorporates Windows Installer in ProcessMaker Software
By Susan J. Campbell TMCnet Contributing Editor
Colosa, a developer of business process management (BPM) software that enables small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to simplify workflow through the automation of paper-based processes, has successfully incorporated a Windows installer in its ProcessMaker software.
This incorporation was in an effort to ensure simple implementation for users of the Microsoft (News - Alert) operating system. As consumers often view the Windows system as the primary operating system for easy use, this installer should help to promote increased adoption for the Colosa solutions.
Through a partnership with BitRock, a recognized leader of custom open source stacks, the installer is provided to Colosa customers. BitRock provides tools and services to numerous open source and proprietary independent software vendors to enable them to integrate, package, install and update their software.
A commercial open source business process management, ProcessMaker is a workflow software solution that is designed for small and medium enterprises. The solution is designed to enable rapid design and automation of business processes including all involved Web forms, output documents, user roles, 3rd party system integrations and routing
rules.
The ProcessMaker is a Web-based, SOA and is simple to use. It is used by private and public organizations that require automation of document-intensive, approval-based processes within operations, finance and human resources.
With the addition of BitRock’s Windows installer and the ease of use of the ProcessMaker, both the enterprise and open source versions enable new users who choose the Microsoft Windows operating system version to be up and running within minutes.
BitRock’s custom installer is offered with an installation wizard that provides ProcessMaker users with step-by-step guidance through the configuration process. All the dependencies needed to run ProcessMaker are bundled in the easy-to-install BitRock WAMP stack, including Apache 2.2.8, PHP 5.25, and MySQL 5.0.
“Small and medium enterprises have a need for efficiently managing their workflow, a problem we address with a very different approach to business process management, a technology that is traditionally viewed as complex and difficult to install,” said Brian Reale, CEO of Colosa, in a Thursday statement.
“The widespread use of Windows and the need for small business users to have simple installation of software, combined with BitRock’s expertise, meant that this was a good technical and business decision.”
Erica Brescia, CEO of BitRock added in Thursday’s statement, “As firm believers in the value of open source technologies, we understand the difficulties that often come up adopting open source in smaller enterprises.”
“By having an easy-to-use installer, it decreases the total cost of ownership
so that non-experts can quickly install and use ProcessMaker. Many business process management software offerings are too costly for SMEs, or too complex for them to implement. Colosa’s ProcessMaker is the ideal solution for any small business that wants to automate business processes,” said Brescia.
The combination of the ProcessMaker and the BitRock solutions cater to the masses as it provides an easy to install solution that also responds to the challenges faced by everyday businesses. By incorporating the Windows installer, Colosa can ensure rapid and widespread adoption while it strives to strengthen its market positioning and extend its reach.
